Richard "Fresh Air Dick" Janson Canvasback Hen

$2,300.00

Solid carved redwood canvasback hen by Richard “Fresh Air Dick” Janson (Sonoma, CA) ca. 1940s. This exact decoy is pictured on page 121 of Wildfowl Decoys of California by Michael Miller. While Miller describes this example as original paint with the individual brown feathers and white speculums added at a later date, a black light inspections shows the entire surface as original. Either way, it is a beautiful and well documented example. Branded twice with “JAL” indicating it is from the rig of Joseph Albert Lourdeaux who owned a floating ark on Sonoma Creek next to Janson. This example is also documented on page 202 (closeup head shot, bottom right) of Richard “Fresh Air Dick” Janson by Wallace Lourdeaux. Measures 15” in length.
