Rare, solid carved redwood canvasback drake by Richard “Fresh Air Dick” Janson (Sonoma, CA) ca. 1930s. From the collection of Wallace Lourdeaux, author of the quintessential book on the maker. Good and original paint with in use wear. Branded JAL for Wally Lourdeaux’s grandfather, Joseph Albert Lourdeaux. Wally Lourdeaux describes this decoy to be from the rig of decoys Janson would rent out to hunters. After Janson’s passing, all of these decoys came to Joseph Albert Lourdeaux and were branded as such. Measures 15 3/8” in length. Note the tight neck crack on the right and more prominent wear to the bottom. A rare example with excellent provenance.
