Rare solid carved mallard drake by John Ferreira (Vallejo, CA) ca. 1940s. Ferreira was a pipe fitter on Mare Island Naval Shipyard (MINS) in Vallejo. Note the inletted ballast weight/line tie found on MINS maker decoys. Very similar to the work of “Fresh Air Dick” Janson of Sonoma, CA. See page 192 of Wildfowl Decoys of California by Michael Miller. Measures 16.5” in length. Paint is a mix of original and old in use repaint. Mostly all original paint with small areas of old working repaint. Branded LEDU4. Neck crack.
