Very rare Canada goose by John Cooper Reeves (Long Point, Ontario, Canada) circa 1880. This flat-bottomed decoy was carved by the eldest son of Phineas Reeves. John worked at the Long Point Company as a guide, a carver, and its first bookkeeper. This refined bird is finished with stippled paint and wet feather blending. Original paint with moderate gunning wear, replaced bill and lower neck repair by Russ Allen. A very thin layer of the bottom appears to have been cut off at some point in the past. There is an old crack on the right side that has an old repair. A very rare, collectable decoy. Measures nearly 24” in length.
