Early (Circa 1900) rare and important solid carved redwood pintail drake by Richard “Fresh Air Dick” Janson (Sonoma, CA). These earliest examples are from the personal hunting rig of the maker. This decoy is from the collection of the author of Richard “Fresh Air Dick” Janson, Wallace Lourdeaux and is featured in this wonderful reference including multiple shots on pages 90 and 91 along with dimensions/description. This example is in good and original paint with in use wear. The white areas had an old overpaint that was professionally removed by Paul Fortin. Measures approximately 15.5” in length. The bottom is branded twice with D indicating this example is from the south San Francisco Bays down hunt club in Draw Bridge, the only ghost town on the bay now sinking into the marsh lands of the south bay. A historically significant example by this most collectable California maker. Note the tight neck crack.
