Rare and early solid carved redwood canvasback drake by Frank Willis (Redwood City, CA) ca. 1930s. This exact decoy is pictured on page 375 of Wildfowl Decoys of California by Michael Miller. Old in service repaint. His work is further discussed in the July/August 2009 issue of Decoy Magazine. Measures 14.5” in length. Willis was an accomplished taxidermist and gained notoriety with his decorative decoys carved in the late 60s-70s. His early working decoys are a rare find.
