It is very rare for these early examples by Ed Snyder (Rio Vista, CA) to come available. Here we have a mallard drake constructed of balsawood for the body and sugar pine for the head in good original paint with light in use wear circa 1940s. There is a faint signature on the bottom with the date 1940. There is an early sticker on the bottom from the Decoy and Gallery Gift Shop in Carmel-By-The-Sea. See page 416 (top left photo) of Wildfowl Decoys of California by Michael Miller for a similar example. Note the tight neck crack and wear to the lower right side. Measures 16.5” in length. A true classic early California decoy.
