Exceedingly rare, excellent and all original solid carved pintail pair made for the Commissioned Officers Mess at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, CA, ca. 1930s-40s. Collectors refer to these wonderful decoys as COM MINS. They were likely made with the help of several area makers with the well known maker, Dick Allen. Stylish postures with the drake turning to the right and the hen in a preening posture. The drake measures 17” in length and the hen is 15”. The lead ballast weights have been removed. If used in the field it was very lightly. See page 186 of Wildfowl Decoys of California by Michael Miller.
