Solid carved redwood canvasback drake by Alex “Fat” Ashley (Vallejo, CA) ca. 1930s. This exact decoy is pictured in Wildfowl Decoys of California by Michael Miller (top photo). The author indicates this decoy to be in original paint with touchup to the head. A black light inspection shows this decoy to be in original paint on the head, chest and tail areas and traces of old in use repaint to the white areas. There is an old repaired crack to the bill and tight neck crack. Measures 14” in length.
