Fine solid carved pintail drake by Ed Castagnetto (San Francisco, CA). This is an early, 1930s, example that appears to have been painted at a later date by the maker. See page 340 of Wildfowl Decoys of California by Michael Miller. Castagnetto practiced carving daily with Dick Janson every night after work for over a year. As Ed tells it, he got so good he was able to fool the master himself. This example reinforces that claim. Measures 17 1/4” n length.
